Adobe Dynamic Link Bug Fix

If you are using our Pro Motion Menu Kit products, you are probably familiar with the Encore workflow and the use of the Adobe Dynamic Link feature, which links to After Effects compositions, to avoid some bugs with Encore’s rendering.

We have occasionally experienced glitches with the Dynamic Link feature, and have been working hard to figure out what causes them… and we might have discovered the problem. Our testing is still very early, so it’s possible this solution is just a temporary coincidence, but we might be on to something!

First, here are some of the glitches:

  • After linking the motion background of a menu to a dynamic link composition, the Encore preview displays black, or a completely different composition.
  • Encore may render out the dynamic linked menus and/or transitions incorrectly, displaying parts of other compositions from the same project.
  • Rendering of a menu may end prematurely by a few frames to a second

Now for the solution:

Disable Simultaneous Frame Rendering in After Effects

Thats it! The setting is located in ‘Edit > Preferences > Memory & Multiprocessing’. Just uncheck the box for “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously”. The setting only has to be disabled when you are working in Encore, so be sure to re-enable it once you go back into After Effects to do more work (assuming you have at least 3GB RAM and a multi-core cpu to support it).

Again, we are still in the early stages of testing this solution, but so far it has corrected all the dynamic link glitches for us. Let me know how it works for you guys!

UPDATE: After successfully fixing all dynamic link problems on 3 straight projects using this method, the glitches with the transitions returned on the 4th! Very strange and unpredictable. Not all bad news though, the black menu preview bug has not returned. To get around the transition glitches (the first 5 seconds of the 10 second transition is of a different transition), we simply imported the transition directly into the project, after using the HD_to_SD.aep to convert our HD menu to SD resolution and combining the music with the video. All testing was done on standard DVD projects, not Blu-ray. Blu-ray authoring may or may not experience the same problems.

You’re a lifesaver. That problem brought much frustration in the past. Trying to work with the menu when all you see is black…not fun. I’ll try this out next project and let you know how it goes.

I have a serious problem. when I try to import the project Din_Link by Adobe Dynamic Link tab, clicking the Din_Link my encore cs4 crashes and does not work. could help me find the solution.

How does it crash? If it just becomes non-responsive, just give it a few seconds then click somewhere on the screen and it should load. When you click on the Dyn_Lnk.aep, it is actually launching After Effects in the background. You just have to wait and give it time to load.

I’m unable to import AF DL

I’m using CS6, the DL option in File> Adobe Dynamic Link is all greyed out

I thought u found a way around this by dragging the dynamic link in to the Encore project but after burning the disc the audio does not play.

I exported the audio as shown on the Tutorial

Do you have a new Tutorial for CS6

Plus I have created a Titles Template, from the Enchanted waters Project, would love for you to see it

    Thank you
