Pro Motion Menu Kits
What software is required to use a Pro Motion Menu Kit?

Adobe After Effects CS3 or above is required to open the project files. Photoshop CS3 or above is required to open and modify the DVD Cover and Label templates. Any dvd authoring program can be used to create the dvd once the menus have been rendered. Authoring templates are provided for Adobe Encore and Button Shapes are provided for Apple DVD Studio Pro. Our Pro Motion Menu Kits are fully compatible with Adobe CS5.
It is taking me forever to render the motion menus in After Effects. How can I make it go faster?

First, it is important to understand that complex motion graphics take time to render, especially when using high definition resolutions, motion blur, particle systems, displacement maps, etc. Our projects have been optimized when possible to reduce render times and increase efficiency, however it still takes time just as any 3D animation would.

One thing that greatly effects the speed of your rendering is your After Effects Memory & Multiprocessing settings. It is possible to reduce your render times by up to half just by optimizing the settings for your system's configuration and project. We have had great success by configuring the settings to use as many cpu's as possible, while still leaving sufficient memory for the operating system and at least 1.5 GB per cpu. Some of our customers have also improved rendering times by enabling OpenGL rendering, however rendering of multiple frames simultaneously is not supported in this mode.

Our current test system (Intel Core i7 @ 3.9 GHz) is able to render most of our Pro Motion Menu Kits in approximately 1 to 4 hours (depending on the menu) from start to finish.
In Encore, why do the menus just show up as black after setting the background to the dynamic link composition?

This bug can occur when Simultaneous Frame Rendering has been enabled in After Effects (which is sending Encore the frames of the motion menu through Dynamic Link). We recommend disabling this before opening Encore. You can find this setting in After Effects by going to ‘Edit > Preferences > Memory & Multiprocessing’. Just uncheck the box for “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously”. Be sure to turn this back on once you are done in Encore, or you will be wondering why your After Effects rendering is taking twice as long.
In Encore, why do my transitions sometimes render with unexpected anomalies on the final disc, such as showing half of two different transitions instead of the one it is suppose to?

There seems to be some bugs with the dynamic link feature on certain system configurations. If you encounter this problem, you can simply import the transitions directly into the Encore project instead of using the dynamic link assets.

Since a menu transition can only be linked to a single asset in the project panel, all your music and sound fx must be combined with the video asset into a single quicktime movie. If your audio is in a separate file, you can open the Dyn_Lnk.aep or HD_to_SD.aep project files in After Effects to quickly export a quicktime movie file which has the audio combined. Email support is available if you need additional assistance.
Why do I get the following error when rendering in Encore?

Blu-ray object:”<menu>04_intro_sequence_HD”,error:”internal error 11”(Internal Software error:.\AVTreenode.cpp,line39)”,code “11”,NOTE:”Bad Cast:AVTreeref;;as multinode.

There seems to be a bug on the Mac OS when attempting to author a Blu-ray Menu that contains no buttons. Our latest workflow for CS4 avoids this problem, however if you are using CS3, here is the solution:

Instead of the Intro Sequence being a menu, you can create a new timeline, and drag the intro sequence audio/video into that, and have it be set as first play. The timeline's end action would of course be the main menu. Since timelines and menu assets are placed in different physical locations on the blu-ray disc, there might be a noticeable delay at the end of the intro while the laser searches for the main menu.
I get an image buffer error in After Effects. Why is this happening?

This only happens on systems that have insufficient memory or that have been configured improperly. If you have received this error, please read this article.
Do the After Effects project files open correctly in a different language version, such as Français, Deutsch, ...?

As of now, the project files will only open correctly in the English version of After Effects. If your version of After Effects is a different language, you can launch the English version by following the directions in this post from our blog.
Where can I submit an idea for a Pro Motion Menu theme?

Your ideas are welcome! We use your input when deciding on a theme for our next design. Please email your suggestions to info@precomposed.com and they will be read by our senior designer.
