Encore Blu-ray Loop-Point Update

We just discovered a mistake we made in our modification of an Encore Blu-ray image to fix the loop points and menu transitions for seamless playback.

As we mentioned earlier, we still had a small pause during playback on a set-top player at the loop point and menu transitions (but no pauses on a computer). After discovering an error we made in how we set the seamless connection condition value, we corrected our mistake and watched as our modified image now had 100% seamless playback on a set top Blu-ray player.

We are now very excited about these modifications and are ready to get started on a tutorial. Due to the complexity and non-intuitive nature of the BD Edit interface, it might be easier to comprehend a video tutorial instead of a written one.

We will get started on this soon!

UPDATE: We’ve discovered additional issues with how we modified the navigation commands, and are currently researching a better method of modifying the commands that doesn’t cause these problems. We will announce when these problems have been resolved. Stay tuned!

Great to hear that You have managed to remove the pause on Blu-Ray.
That is the single most important bug that was holding me off to buy Your great motion menus.
    Hope the tutorial comes soon!

Wow, what a great news! I’m just hoping it’s not going to be too complex task for all us normal human beings 🙂

Next challenge -how about a single soundtrack playing throughout entire menu?

  10. Trevor Harris says:

This is a realy important fix for many people. It is very unprofessional of Adobe not to fix them selves. I look forward to your tutorial.

    Hi jon,
any more info on that looping tutorial?
    thanks

  12. Francois says:

It’s been almost a month since my last comment Jon, any news as to when we can expect that loop point fix tutorial? I had to complete several BluRay projects without using any motion menus and that sucks, clients have to be happy with basic menus for now..
Please keep us in the loop with ur developments, thanks!

We’ve been looking into potential problems with the loop point fix and if it is BD compliant. Apparently Sonic Scenarist (the professional standard for BD authoring) does not allow seamless connection of in-mux IG streams, but it does allow it for out-of-mux IG streams. IG streams are of course the button highlights on a menu, as well as pop-up menus. We are not sure if this is a limitation of Scenarist or if it is somewhere in the BD Spec, but it simply doesn’t allow it for some reason. Encore CS5 has separate streams for the IG, indicating they are out of mux… however it appears Encore is flagging the menu as muxed. Very complicated stuff for those that aren’t familiar with BD spec authoring, but we are looking into the matter as we don’t want to offer a fix that isn’t Blu-ray compliant and may not work on some players.

  14. Francois says:

Thanks for the update Jon, sounds complicated indeed. Will leave it up to the pros to sort out.

  15. Stefan says:

    Hi Jon.
It’s been a while since your last post on the matter of Blu-ray Loop-Point Issue. Any news?
Would it be possible to publish at least the proceeding you and your team discovered so far.
Just a Textfile, nothing fancy. At least it would give us a chance to try it out.
    Cheers.

  16. Steven Hewitt says:

I just completed my first motion menu with a pro-kit and this issue popped-up for me too. Is this really not a fixable problem? I put the blame entirely on Adobe (or Sonic) here. It’s been a known bug since CS4 apparently.

  17. Moh'd Jangeer says:

Using Dvd Maestro [old school, discontinued 2002] powerful like Sonic Scenarist i figured out how to do menu transitions for seamless playback without a pause for DVDS. HD not supported.

  18. Purchased pro motion kit 07, after 2 days of trying to figure out why my loop point was`nt working i found this post! When the menu button is pressed it always plays the whole intro and main menu again, as if no loop point was set. Any fix for this?

  19. Jon Geddes says:

    Hi Mark,

We have had many customers experience this bug, and it is primarily affecting Mac users with older versions of Encore (pre-CS6). When saving the project, Encore will sometimes automatically uncheck the ‘Start at Loop Point’ box. You must make sure you check the box immediately before building your project and it should work without issues. Also know that the preview feature does not always display the loop point properly. You should build an image and playback with a software dvd player to test.

  20. Gareth says:

    Hi There,

Was there ever a fix for this issue? I cant seem to find a solution anywhere.

    Thanks

  21. Jon Geddes says:

Gareth, there is not a fix for this as far as we know.

  22. Erich Thienhaus says:

Can you please publish what you have done so far with BDEdit? The looppoint bug is horrible, and I need a solution urgently!
